Last week, SmartForest, represented by Erik Næsset from NMBU, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, participated in the Data Assimilation Alliance meeting in Helsinki.
The meeting highlighted the strong Nordic collaboration between SmartForest4.0 (Norway), Mistra Digital Forest (Sweden), and UNITE flagship (Finland) — three research initiatives working together to advance the field of data assimilation in forestry.
By combining complementary expertise, the alliance is helping to build a shared methodological foundation for integrating field data and remote sensing data.
The ambition is clear: to make better use of the large amounts of forest data already available and improve decision support for forest management and planning.
